The Week That Was : May 15-21, 2016

Greetings Friends & Fiends!

Ye Olde Dragon here, with another new thing I’m trying. Things in The Den have been quite hectic lately, and it seemed like every time I was ready to post some news item, something ELSE would come along to interrupt me, or another news item would come up. So I decided, maybe I should worry less about “Breaking News” and concentrate on it at the end of the week (Unless it’s something MAJOR). Now, you may be curious about the header sitting above this missive, as in why it’s a picture of Yours Truly, wearing headphones and speaking into a microphone. That’s because after THIS installment, I’m going to try my claw at doing audio/video posts and a week-in-review seems like the ideal test run. Before I begin, I will preface by saying that I don’t watch Gotham, so I can’t give any info on that. Sorry.

Ready? Here we go!

Oh – one final thing – in multiple cases,

Ye’ve been warned.

ABC Up-Fronts

Well, in a showcase for advertisers, ABC presented their Fall Lineup. Bad news Marvel Fans – they officially pulled the plug on Agent Carter, announced they were NOT picking up Marvel’s Most Wanted – spin-off from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that AOS would be pushed back to 10PM on Tuesdays.

THE FLASH: Season 2, Episode 22: Invincible

WOW. If you thought Zoom (Teddy Sears) was a bastard for what he’s done to Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), you ain’t seen NOTHING yet! It’s bad enough that he kills Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) dad, Henry (John Wesley Shipp), but he drags poor Henry, with Barry right behind them, to their old family home and kills him on practically the very spot where Eobard Thawne had killed Barry’s mom years ago. I wasn’t as shocked as a lot of viewers no doubt were however.

You see, a few weeks back, Henry announced he was coming back to Central City for good. That just sent up red flags for me. Then there was another interesting piece of information he dropped when Barry caught him up with what was happening at STAR Labs, how Jay Garrick had taken Caitlin. Henry says, “Garrick was my mom’s maiden name.” I said to myself (and a few friends as well), “THAT’S the missing piece! I’m pretty sure I know who the “Man in the Mask” is, that Zoom has been keeping prisoner.” Well, at least the ACTOR in the mask. I’m convinced more than ever that the Man in the Mask is played by –

The question is, WHO is he portraying? One thing is for sure – the prisoner is another speedster, because Zoom has him in the same exact kind of cell he had Barry in. The question now is, WHICH speedster? The prisoner kept tapping “Jay Garrick” in that code repeatedly on the glass of his cage. Does that mean he’s the REAL Jay Garrick?

When Barry asked Zoom who he was, Zoom’s answer was, “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.” Would that be because he wouldn’t believe that there WAS a Jay Garrick after all, or did he mean someone else? By someone else, I mean – brace yourself – Barry Allen.

John Wesley Shipp played Barry Allen/The Flash in the 1995 TV series. Could it be HIM in the cage? What supports this theory?  How about this:

Remember this little Easter Egg from Episode 13? As Barry passed thru the wormhole, we saw things that were coming to ALL of the DC shows:

Supergirl, whose show Flash would cross over into for an episode.
Connor Hawke, the future Green Arrow, seen on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Jonah Hex, ALSO seen in an upcoming episode of Legends.
A Legion Flight Ring, which turned up on Supergirl, in Superman’s Fortress.

The above picture of Shipp in HIS Flash costume is the ONLY image that has yet to be seen. We’ll find out (I HOPE) this coming Tuesday night!

Season 3, Episode 21: Absolution & Episode 22: Ascension

Well, we certainly found out after a game of ‘Crucifix Hot Potato’ who the “Fallen Agent” was, that Daisy (Chloe Bennet) saw die in a prophetic vision -it was Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) who died a hero, saving the world and taking Hive/Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) with him. We jump ahead six months later to find Daisy is a fugitive vigilante (take THAT, Sarkovia Accords!) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is no longer Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Well, that should be interesting catching up in the fall!

Well, in addition to my guest-hosting a #TCMParty for BEACH PARTY that night, there were a few interesting tidbits.

The CW Up-Fronts

The CW had its “Up-Fronts” for advertisers on Thursday, where they officially welcomed Supergirl to the CW DC family, for its second season. What’s more, they said they’d be keeping it at the same time of Mondays at 8PM that it held on CBS. It was also announced that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow would be a full season show and that ALL FOUR DC shows – meaning Supergirl, Legends, Flash and Arrow – would have a massive  four part crossover in December!

DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Season 1, Episode 16: Legendary

So we had the season finale for the debut season of Legends and what a finale! It was said that there would be a revolving team on the Waverider, and we found who would not be returning to the timeship for another hitch.

Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) seemingly perished foiling the Time Masters in last week’s episode, but Mr Snart will be appearing across all of the series at random points next season. He will apparently be joint in this new status by Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), who left at the end of this episode, having fulfilled their lives-long mission of ending Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). The Hawks weren’t gone 5 minutes, when the rest of the team was surprised by the appearance of a second Waverider that crashed in front of them. From out of the hatch came a man (Patrick J. Adams) warning them not to get into their ship, or they’d be dead. When Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) asked who sent him, he replied, “YOU did, Mr Rory.” He then pulled his hood back and introduced himself.

“My name is Rex Tyler and I’m a member of the Justice Society of America.”

and – BLACK, closing credits.

WHAT WHAT WHAT????? Hourman just showed up (the subject of a long-rumored show of his own) and name dropped the JSA!!!

As a longtime JSA fan, I can’t tell you how stoked I am for this! The possibilities are mind blowing, but I guess we’ll find out more as the summer progresses. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a big part of the four show crossover, considering there are “traditional” JSA ties/namesakes between all four shows. It also gives a chance for a possible CONSTANTINE appearance, considering that show held TWO JSA connectionsDr. Fate’s helmet and Jim Corrigan aka The Spectre!

Fall can’t get here FAST ENOUGH!

Sadly, Prince Sirki continues making the rounds in Imagi-Land with a seeming vengeance in 2016, Hatchlings. On Friday, we lost the wonderful Alan Young at the age of 96. So many people will remember him as Wilbur Post on MR. ED, playing straight man to a horse, but to so many people, he was the voice of Scrooge McDuck – first in MICKEY’S CHRISTMAS CAROL (1983), and then in the DUCK TALES (1987-1990) TV Series. This might be news to some folks, but he also was the voice of 7-Zark-7 AND Keyop in BATTLE OF THE PLANETS the first US iteration of SCIENCE NINJA TEAM GATCHAMAN. In Imagi-Movies, he played important parts in two George Pal filmsPhilby, George‘s (Rod Taylor) best friend in THE TIME MACHINE (1960) and as Woody, Tom’s (Russ Tamblin) best friend in TOM THUMB (1958). He reprised his role of Philby and reunited with Taylor for a special scene for the TIME MACHINE anniversary release.

Late Friday night, a Reddit user posted spoilers for the upcoming linchpin for the DC REBIRTH event, backing them up with photos of him holding the comic open to key pages. The Bleeding Cool website then published the images and the spoilers, which effectively let the genie out of the bottle, and the information embargo DC had placed on Comic News sites it had sent preview copies to (of which Bleeding Cool was NOT one of) was lifted. The spoilers and a full 6 page preview sent out by DC were put online and WOW. I’ll go into details later today, as DC themselves have just released MORE pages for the book coming out this Wednesday (or tomorrow night at midnight for certain stores). The key points are this –

Pre-Flashpoint WALLY WEST is BACK!

PANDORA, seeming architect of the New52 is OBLITERATED in an eerily familiar way.

Her killer, the REAL architect of the New52 by strealing TEN YEARS from the DC Universe is none other than:

I’ll go into more details later today.

Kind of an eventful week, no? Wow. I hope talking about it will be easier than typing it all out, because it’s a LOT!

…End of Line…
