Greetings from beyond, The Veil, Effendi!
Prince Sirki has seemingly double-dipped into the realm of Visual Effects in the past 24 hours, as we’ve learned of the passing of Tony Dyson, 68, who is credited as the original builder of R2-D2 for STAR WARS (1977). He also worked on the Visual Effects crews of SUPERMAN II (1980), DRAGONSLAYER (1981) and MOONRAKER (1979).
As STAR WARS Fans mourn the loss of Dyson, STAR TREK Fans are likewise in mourning today, for Emmy-Winning VFX master Gary Hutzel. Hutzel, 60, won Emmys as the FX crew leader for STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. He co-created the USS Defiant – the small Battleship used in DS9 and in the feature film STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT (1996). He also won two Emmys heading up the FX team for the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA reboot on SyFy.
My condolences to their families, friends and fans.
End of Line…
