And so it began. Thirty-seven years ago today, movies were never the same again. Today saw the birth of the summer blockbuster. The film that started it all? None other than Steven Spielberg’s JAWS (1975) was the fore-bearer of the reign of the summer blockbuster. It was Hell to complete, according to many that worked on the film, but the rewards were unimagined as it was a runaway hit and made a fortune at the box office. It paved the way for other films to follow as titans of the summer box office and it’s why, to this day, that the summer movie season is the most umm ‘hotly’ contested. (Sorry – no pun intended – HONEST!)
Here’s to you Mr. Spielberg, and to Bruce the Shark!
