Brightest Day Ends…for now

The end has come. In stores today is the final issue of DC’s Brightest Day.

A year ago, we saw the end of The Blackest Night, where 12 heroes and villains of the DC Universe were resurrected by the mysterious White Lantern. Aquaman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Deadman, Max Lord, Reverse-Flash, Jade, Hawk, Capt. Boomerang, Osiris, Firestorm (Ron Raymond) and Martian Manhunter all came back to fulfill some mysterious mission. Today, that mission was completed.

Without giving too much away, we’ve seen the return of Swamp Thing, revealed as the ultimate Champion of the Earth. Now comes his rise and the new quest begins. Author Geoff Johns stated months ago, not everyone will fulfill their purpose, and there was no promise that all the ‘Returned’ would stay that way. That much is indeed true. There is much to explore and learn. And for that, we turn to the 3 issue mini-series, BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH: THE SEARCH that will debut in June.

As for that gem, with its blocked-out central figure, the answer should’ve been obvious from the jacketed outline. Who ELSE would be searching for Swamp Thing. Here’s the clue – instead of jacket, think COAT. A ‘long’ coat.

All in all, it was a fine conclusion, that leaves a good amount unanswered -f0r now- to be expanded into the pages of the mini and other new ongoings, once FLASHPOINT ends, especially the already heralded AQUAMAN, written by Johns.
